Emergency Planning Resilience and Response

This course provides students with an opportunity to develop Master's level education in the concepts theories and academic skills for emergency planning, resilience, business continuity and disaster management and recovery. The course caters for professionals who may already be working in this field or those wishing to embark on a career in emergency planning. The course aims offers a flexible approach to the subjects studied and those already working in this area are able to develop further their knowledge skills and experience.

Entry requirements

MSc: Normally candidates for this course will hold a 1st degree or evidence of level 6/7 study achieved at or above a minimum pass grade or equivalent However, candidates will be considered for the course that have experience related to the areas of study for example already working in emergency planning resilience and response. If English is not the applicant's first language they will need to have a TOEFL score of 550 or above, or an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, or evidence of English proficiency equivalent to these scores. Accreditation of prior experience & learning (APCL) (students may apply for up to 90 credits of APCL (accreditation of prior certificated learning and/or accreditation of prior experiential learning) subject to the guidelines set out in the SHaW APL Guidelines).

Course modules

Modules include: emergency resilience, planning and response; commanding a range of incident responses; communicating in and training for disasters; management and leadership of emergency incidents; immediate care in the emergency setting; business continuity management; dissertation; or evidenced-based practice project; or consultancy module.

Assessment methods

Dissertation or evidence-based project.
