This course provides students with a sound general knowledge of advanced mathematics through study in several pure and applied areas of the subject, including statistics and operational research; a wide choice of topics is available for the dissertation, taken under the supervision of a member of the academic staff; if students wish to enter employment within the field of mathematics then this course enhances their career prospects by promoting a professional attitude to mathematics; mathematicians are warmly welcomed in industry, business and commerce for their analytical ability and logical approach to problem solving; the course is particularly suitable if students are planning a career in teaching mathematics or are already a qualified teacher seeking to enhance promotion prospects.
(Completion of which, with a minimum of grade C in all modules, allows a student to progress to the Master�s programme); a pass at degree level. Students are selected using application form and references in the 1st instance and may be invited for interview. Students applying for individual modules ware required to demonstrate the ability to absorb technical concepts and detail, possibly by way of their previous industrial or commercial experience. Minimum English competency is the standard MSc entry: IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
Modules include: research methods and professional skills; mathematical modelling; introduction to cybermetrics; statistics; advanced topics in mathematics; discrete mathematics; dissertation.
