Education (Leadership and Management)

This course is committed to the development of leadership and managerial skills among educational and training professionals. It is directly relevant to leaders working in public and private sector organisations. Modules are designed to support colleagues wishing to improve their personal and professional leadership skills. You will examine current thinking about how organisations are managed from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The modules are constantly updated to reflect current policy issues and emerging challenges such as collaborative leadership and managing across professional boundaries. The programme incorporates key concepts such as the learning organisation, organisational values, creative leadership, social responsibility and the 'virtual' organisation.

Entry requirements

Applicants will normally have 1 of the following: a 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant subject area; a wide range of relevant experience. The IELTS score for international applicants is 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in each component). Other English language qualifications will be considered.

Course modules

MA

Core modules: contemporary issues in education (theory, policy and practice); research methods; dissertation.

PgDip

Students complete four pathway modules, plus contemporary issues in education: theory, policy and practice plus one 20 credit module of choice from available MA education modules.

PgCert

Students complete two 20 credit pathway modules plus either: leading and managing in church schools or creative approaches to educational leadership.

Assessment methods

A variety of assignments and tasks will be used to support learning. Guidance will be provided for presentations and the completion of written work. Most of the assessment will be of a written nature, involving independent reading and research.
