The course is intended to be undertaken alongside, and complementary to, employment supporting HE student learning; core modules provide an opportunity for programme participants to gain knowledge, understanding and capabilities in learning, teaching, assessment, research methods and academic practice; the programme encourages participants to articulate the links between current theory and research and the practical context in which they work.

Entry requirements

A 1st or 2nd Class Honours Degree; current and ongoing experience of supporting the learning of HE students in large groups, small groups and one-to-one; current experience, or anticipated experience during the period of the programme, of curriculum and assessment design at higher education level.

Learning teaching and assessment in HE; introduction to academic practice; supporting student learning in HE; evaluation of professional learning; professional enquiry into an educational setting; negotiated learning, education (single); negotiated learning education (double); negotiated learning, education (triple); reflecting on current issues in education; reflecting on professional practice; personal and professional development; finance and resource management; leadership for quality and sustainability; organisational improvement through action research; policy and the management of change; performance management; information and knowledge management; leading creativity and innovation; mentoring and coaching; developing learning and teaching strategies; approaches to educational research: research methods for professional enquiry in education; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Completion of the Masters requires participants to complete an extended piece of research, written up as a dissertation equivalent to either 3 or 4 individual modules.
