Social Work

The course delivers a professional qualification combined with an academic award. Successful completion of the course allows registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) so that you can practice as a social worker in the UK. The course dynamically integrates theory and practice embracing both learning in the classroom and in placement settings. The course provides a generic learning opportunity encompassing all service user groups and every effort is made to involve service users, carers, practitioners and managers from across the social work arena in the learning experience.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree at 2.1 or above; a minimum 6 months contemporary, relevant practice verified by reference; GSCE English language and mathematics grade C or above; IELTS 7.0 if English is not an applicant's 1st language.

Course modules

Year 1: law and policy for social work; theories, principles and approaches in social work interventions; practice learning 1 (70 days); workshop programme; social work responses to human growth and development. Year 2: professional social work practice in welfare organisations; workshop programme; practice learning 2 (100 days); dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessed practice learning; workshop and conference programme; portfolio evidencing each students' achievement of the National Occupational Standards; dissertation; a portfolio route or a course of study; demonstrate competent IT skills through certification.
