Members of the department have research interests in ancient philosophy, early modern philosophy (Descartes to Kant), post-Kantian philosophy, history of analytic philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of language and logic, philosophy of mind and psychology, philosophy of religion, metaphysics and epistemology, ethical theory, and applied ethics.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirements for the programmes are an upper 2nd or 1st Class (or equivalent) undergraduate degree in any subject (and for the MPhil and PhD, normally an MA that includes some philosophy, with an average mark of at least 60, or its equivalent); a satisfactory research proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words. If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you are applying to.
