University of York
Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence
This course is a collaboration between the University of York, the University of Essex and Goldsmiths College, University of London. It will trains students as researchers, designers, developers and entrepreneurs in digital games. The doctoral programme combines practical skills training with advanced teaching in cutting-edge research topics and the chance to contribute original research to a growing academic area. Students also undertake 2 industrial placements during the programme, giving first hand industrial experience that will influence their research projects.
Applicants should have a 2.1 or higher in a discipline related to game design, development or analysis. We will consider applications from applicants with significant other relevant experience, for example working in game design. To apply for a place on the IGGI programme, you need to select a lead supervisor at one of the three institutions of Essex, Goldsmiths and York. Check the list of available IGGI supervisors across all three institutions, listed with their research interests and find those that most closely match the research you would like to undertake. If you are unable to identify a supervisor, then please check our research themes to see if your proposed research sits within one of these areas.
A range of scholarships and studentships are available at postgraduate level. Some scholarships are funded by the University (such as the York Master's Opportunity Scholarship) and some are funded by Research Councils, alumni, businesses and charities. Please check with the provider for details.
