Environmental Science

Our research expertise spans the whole spectrum of environmental science and is aligned to 3 main themes: Earth systems and environmental change; ecosystems and society; environmental health. All students will be working on their own research project, working closely with their academic supervisor and with the support of other postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers and staff in their research group. Our range of flexible research programmes are targeted at individuals with a background in environmental science or a related field wishing to pursue a senior research post in the public or private sectors, or a career in academia. Research in this programme is focussed on: Prediction of water quality from catchment characteristics; pollution effects upon soil/plant/water ecosystems; evaluation of critical loads and levels of pollutants; modelling of atmospheric chemistry processes; biogeochemical cycling and sustainability; indoor and outdoor exposure to air pollution; environmental impacts of volcanoes; pathways and impacts of agricultural pollutants.

You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you are applying to.
