Global Social Policy
This programme examines regional and global perspectives on Social Policy. It provides students with the necessary tools to critically analyse global social policy responses and solutions to global social problems and their implications for nation states. It will also offer students the opportunity to undertake a research placement with a relevant organisation working in the area of global social policy. This programme is aimed at prospective social policy analysts and researchers with an interest in global and/or international social and public policy, professionals working on social policy in international organisations and development agencies, global advocacy agencies and international non- governmental organisations (INGOs), students who want to hone their undergraduate studies in a more focused area of study, and potential PhD students who want to develop their theoretical and empirical skills in this area.
Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent qualification. However, if you have relevant work experience with good academic potential you may also be considered. International students: if English is not your 1st language you should also read the English language requirements for postgraduate study.
Module includes: social policy analysis from global to local; introduction to global international and comparative research methods; global social problems and global social policy; globalisation and social policy; making global policy workshops; dissertation research project.
A range of scholarships and studentships are available at postgraduate level. Some scholarships are funded by the University (such as the York Master's Opportunity Scholarship) and some are funded by Research Councils, alumni, businesses and charities. Please check with the provider for details.
