Human Resource Management
The programme is vocationally relevant and academically rigorous and enjoys full accreditation and meets the knowledge requirement of CIPD membership. Full CIPD membership requires further work experience to demonstrate practical competence. Teaching is delivered via a mix of lectures, seminars and practical workshops. A MA in HRM from us provides you with skills that are recognized internationally, and that create a variety of career opportunities in consultancy, recruitment, training and other roles in the HR function in the modern, global economy.
Applicants should have a good 1st degree (2.1 or equivalent) in a social sciences subject. Previous tuition in management subjects is desirable but not essential. Applications will also be considered from candidates with a good 2.2 degree (or equivalent) and at least 2 years relevant work experience. For students whose 1st language is not English, we normally require evidence of English language ability.
Module includes: Term 1: Leadership, management of human resources; skills for human resource management; financial management. Term 2 - choice of 2: Learning and development; reward and performance management; regulating the employment relationship. Term 3: Research skills for human resource management; independent study module 1 and 2.
A range of scholarships and studentships are available at postgraduate level. Some scholarships are funded by the University (such as the York Master's Opportunity Scholarship) and some are funded by Research Councils, alumni, businesses and charities. Please check with the provider for details.
