International Business and Strategic Management
The programme is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills that would be well suited for careers as business consultants and/or strategy analysts in the broad arena of business and management, but especially in the areas of international business and strategic management. It will also be relevant to those wishing to work in business and economic development roles in public sector organisations. The programme is suitable for students from any background and will rapidly develop an understanding of management and business studies to an advanced level, with particular reference to the current research agenda and innovative thinking in international business practice.
Applicants should have a good 1st degree (2.1 or equivalent) in any of the following; management or business studies with a macro and micro economics component; economics; finance or accounting; other degrees where there is a substantial management, finance/accounting or economics component (for example joint degrees). Applications will also be considered from candidates with a good 2.2 (or equivalent) and at least 2 years relevant work experience. Students whose 1st language is not English, we normally require evidence of English language ability.
Term 1: International business in the global context; international political economy and business; managerial economics; introduction to strategic management; qualitative research methods; quantitative methods and data analysis; dissertation. Plus 2 options from: strategy in global organisations; continuity and change in organisations; case studies in strategic management; business and international development in Africa and Latin America.
A range of scholarships and studentships are available at postgraduate level. Some scholarships are funded by the University (such as the York Master's Opportunity Scholarship) and some are funded by Research Councils, alumni, businesses and charities.
