International Business and Strategic Management

This is a specialised management Master's giving students an opportunity to study a wide range of international business topics. The programme is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills that would be well suited for careers as business consultants and/or strategy analysts in the broad arena of business and management, but especially in the areas of international business and strategic management. It will also be relevant to those wishing to work in business and economic development roles in public sector organisations. The programme is intended to build on students' existing knowledge of management and business studies to develop it to an advanced level, with particular reference to the current research agenda and best practice and innovative thinking in international business practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a good 1st degree (2.1 or equivalent) in any subject, although preference may be given to related areas including the following: Management or business studies; economics; finance; accounting; any social science. Applications will also be considered from candidates with a good 2.2 (or equivalent) and at least 2 years relevant work experience. If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you are applying to.

Course modules

Term 1: International business in the global context; international political economy and business; managerial economics; introduction to strategic management; qualitative research methods; quantitative methods and data analysis; dissertation. Plus 2 options from: Strategy in global organisations; continuity and change in organisations; case studies in strategic management; business and international development in Africa and Latin America.

Sponsorship information

A range of scholarships and studentships are available at postgraduate level. Some scholarships are funded by the University (such as the York Master's Opportunity Scholarship) and some are funded by Research Councils, alumni, businesses and charities.
